about loaf
a browser that feels like home.
a native Mac browser, designed and built by Owen Van Vooren.
a little less in your way.
loaf started with the idea of creating a more finely-tuned, focused, and frictionless browsing experience.
the sidebar keeps tabs, pinned sites, profiles, and media together. the tray puts downloads, history, and favorites within reach. the wonderbar helps you get where you’re going.
built for your Mac.
loaf is written in Swift, with a SwiftUI interface and WebKit, the browser engine used by Safari. it uses native macOS frameworks for its interface, window management, and system integration.
it also supports some Chrome Web Store extensions. that support is experimental: compatibility varies, and more advanced extensions may not work.
your browsing stays yours.
loaf doesn’t collect analytics or send telemetry. your browsing history stays on your Mac, and saved passwords are stored in Keychain. optional, experimental iCloud sync shares profile details, pinned tabs, browser preferences, and open-tab lists across your Macs. private profiles use temporary website storage and don’t save browsing history.
optional online features, including search suggestions and weather, contact their respective providers. you choose which features to enable.
if you send a bug report, the report and your optional email are stored privately so i can investigate. a temporary, keyed hash of your IP limits spam; it isn’t used to track your browsing.

i’m an interface designer from Minnesota. i care about apps that feel considered, behave predictably, and earn the space they take up. loaf is the result of hundreds of hours designing, building, and testing, thanks to the knowledge i’ve acquired from over 3 years of abandoned browser projects.
